Course Overview

Not every data center hazard is dramatic. Hearing loss, slips and falls, and musculoskeletal injuries develop gradually or happen during routine, everyday tasks — generator testing, working on ladders around cable trays, lifting servers and battery modules, and moving around raised-floor environments. Because these hazards feel low-drama, they are easy to underestimate. This course covers three related areas: hearing conservation, walking-working surfaces (slips, trips, falls, ladders), and ergonomics.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

1. Explain how noise damages hearing and identify the OSHA action level and permissible exposure limit.
2. Describe the required components of a hearing conservation program.
3. Identify walking-working surface hazards common in data centers, including raised floors and ladders.
4. Apply basic fall protection and ladder safety principles required by OSHA.
5. Recognize ergonomic risk factors in data center tasks and apply safe lifting principles.

Who Must Take This Course

All data center personnel should complete this course. Employees who work in high-noise areas, use ladders or work at height, or regularly perform manual material handling (server/battery installation, cable pulling, tile lifting) should pay particular attention to the sections most relevant to their tasks.
